The INGREDIENTS
SorbothaneSorbothane® is one of bFly-audio's choice absorption materials. Sorbothane® is a proprietary, visco-elastic polymer. Visco-elastic means that a material exhibits properties of both liquids (viscous solutions) and solids (elastic materials).
Sorbothane® combines shock absorption, good memory, vibration isolation and vibration damping characteristics. In addition, Sorbothane® is a very effective acoustic damper and absorber. While many materials exhibit one of these characteristics, Sorbothane® combines all of them in a stable material with a long fatigue life. Sorbothane® has a low creep rate compared to other polymers (rubber, neoprene, silicone, etc.) Sorbothane® has a superior damping coefficient, over a very wide temperature range, compared to any other polymer. Unlike fluid-based shock absorbers or foam products, Sorbothane® absorbs shock efficiently for millions of cycles. Finally, Sorbothane® eliminates the need for metal springs to return the system to its equilibrium position after absorbing a shock. |
The "SECRET Blend"bFly-audio call it "MLA" - Multi-Layer Adjustment - carefully selected layers of different absorption materials of different thicknesses and orientations. Materials such as Sorbothane®, cork and natural rubber are separated by a non-absorptive aluminium layer.
Each absorption layer provides filtering of different vibration frequency ranges. In addition the orientation is critical - for instance the bamboo used in the PowerBASE is made up of three laminated layers, each counter-rotated by 90° for optimum absorption. The end result is an improved cumulative vibration control, compared to the traditional use of just one or two materials. The PowerBase together with the PROfessional feet, represents the pinnacle of the practical expertise gained by bFly-audio over the past decade, consisting of a total of 11 different absorption layers.
